Norman B. (Brad) Schmidt, PhD is Distinguished Research Professor and incoming Chair of the department of Psychology at the Florida State University. He also directs the Anxiety and Behavioral Health Clinic, a clinical research center focused on the development and provision of state-of-the-art treatments for individuals suffering from anxiety and related problems. 

The major focus of his research has been on the nature, causes, treatment and prevention of anxiety psychopathology as well as related conditions such as substance use, mood disorders and suicide. He has successfully completed dozens of clinical trials as well as laboratory research resulting in the publication of over 500 peer-reviewed publications. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the Military Suicide Research Consortium, the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, and the American Society for Suicide Prevention. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Psychological Science (APS) and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). Among his honors and awards, he received the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology.
