Dr. Anna Woodbury is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management physician. Her active federal funding allows her to study neuroimaging biomarkers of pain and non-invasive neuromodulating techniques such as cranial electrical stimulation (CES), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), and transcutaneous cervical and auricular vagal nerve stimulation (tcVNS/taVNS) for the treatment of pain in clinical research trials. Dr. Woodbury is also a co-investigator on an internally funded proposal evaluating transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for post-traumatic stress disorder and pain, and a collaborator on a federally funded study evaluating non-convulsive “electroconvulsive” therapy (ECT) for chronic pain. She has published on the feasibility of percutaneous nerve field stimulation using a device that targets auricular branches of the cranial nerves including the vagus, and has extensive experience working with veterans who suffer from chronic pain. Dr. Woodbury is particularly interested in sympathetically-mediated pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome.
